Introduction
Segala Mining operates in Tabakoto, in the municipality of Sitakily, about 15 km from Keniéba.
Located in the south of the Kayes region, the Keniéba district covers an area of 16,800 km² with an average population density of about 12 inhabitants per km². It is bounded to the north by the Bafulabé and Kayes districts, to the south by the Republic of Guinea Conakry, to the west by the Republic of Senegal and to the east by the Kita district.
The mine was acquired from Endeavour Mining in 2018 and operates in two permits: Segala Mining Corporation (SEMICO) and Mines de Kofi (MIKO). The SEMICO permit has one open-pit mine (Fougala) and two underground mines (Tabakoto and Segala) in operation. The MIKO permit has two operating open-pit mines (Baboto and Betea).
The share capital is 80% owned by Nguvu Mining Limited — a group with a presence in Ghana, Mali and Niger — and 20% by the Republic of Mali.
As part of the development of the deposits of the MIKO SA permit, the Nguvu Holdings group, majority shareholder of MIKO SA and SEMICO SA, has entrusted SEMICO SA with the processing of ore extracted from the MIKO deposits.
